A tattoo of a ghost

That Tattoo – Scary or Haunting?

Along with October come things that frighten and haunt. Could one of them be your tattoo?

A tattoo of a ghost

Given that tattooing is an artform that is at least 12,000 years old, it’s conceivable that ghosts may sport tattoos. If you believe in ghosts, that is! And, even if you don’t, some regard their tattoos as ghosts of a past that’s been outgrown.

As expressed by a “30-something-year-old father of a three” in a Scary Mommy post, Now That I’m A Parent, I Regret My Tattoos, “…my tattoos are these ghosts of a rebellious youth that do not match who I am now…”

Tattoos do have an interesting history. Although they carried a stigma in the United States until recently, ancient civilizations used them as methods of healing, religious worship, and even as marks of status. Popularity has ebbed and waned over the ages, but it’s fun to know that the Macy’s star logo was actually inspired by a tattoo.

Macy’s founder, Rowland Hussey Macy, had spent time as a whaler in the mid 1800’s. Sailors used stars for navigation at sea, and Macy had gotten a star tattoo commemorating this experience in his life. How’s that for Macy fashion?

Tattoos have become mainstream in the United States to the degree that Mattel even started selling Barbies with tattoos. The increasing acceptance and popularity of tattoos, however, does not translate always into a lifetime of satisfaction.

Tattoo Regret

According to WebMD, as many as 25% of tattoos wearers regret getting a tattoo, with many undergoing laser tattoo removal. The reasons vary. Among those cited by tattoo wearers are:

  • The tattoo lost its meaning for them.
  • They were dissatisfied with the artistic quality.
  • It was the name of a person who is no longer significant.
  • The tattoo no longer signifies the bearer’s personality.

Face it. Many of the trends that come and go, like hair styles and coloring, make-up/nail palettes, fashion and more are all easy to change if you get tired of it. If you find you don’t like a style or color, or it becomes outdated as trends evolve, you move on pretty effortlessly.

However, the permanence of tattoos can cause regret as the lifestyles and tastes of their wearers mature and evolve. If you are one of those who got a tattoo you thought would be perfect as body art for life, but now have grown tired of it, you simply are not alone.

There is a way to banish tattoo ghosts: it’s laser tattoo removal, and Re.You Studio has the state-of-the-art equipment and experienced certified staff to help.

As described in our post, Would Lisbeth Salandar Have Gotten Laser Tattoo Removal?, it is highly likely it will take multiple sessions to remove your tattoo (most take 6 – 15 treatments). You would typically schedule treatments 6 -8 weeks apart for best results. So, if your tattoo brings out ghosts of the past in any way, now is a great time to start putting them to rest.

Would Lisbeth Salandar Have Gotten Laser Tattoo Removal?

Lisbeth Salandar may have sported one of the most famous tattoos of this decade. After all, she was “the girl with the dragon tattoo” in the mystery thriller of that name. The dragon tattoo certainly was an identifying feature for any who wanted to cause trouble for her. I’ve often wondered if Lisbeth ever had considered laser tattoo removal treatments. If so, what would it have involved? As depicted in the movie, it was quite large, very intricate and all black.

Fortunately for Lisbeth and anyone else wanting to say goodbye to their tattoos, laser tattoo removal has become quite refined over the past decade. And if you are one of those thinking about tattoo removal, you are not alone.

WebMD reports that nearly 30% of people in this country have at least one tattoo, with almost half of all millennials having one. Of those who have a tattoo, up to 25% indicate they regret the decision to get it.

In real life, people want to have tattoos removed for many reasons, ranging from putting the past behind them to distortion of the tattoo that can come with aging bodies to changing views about the message the tattoo sends and many, many more.

If you are among the 25% who is wishing to part way with your tattoo(s), Re.You Studio can help.

Re.You Studio offers the best solution for laser tattoo removal in the Tristate region. Our tattoo removal laser utilizes technology that succeeds in breaking up ink of all colors quickly and effectively. Healing is faster too, with less damage to the surrounding tissue.

But, what about the process itself? Following are just a few facts about laser tattoo removal treatments and frequently asked questions:

Will I need multiple laser tattoo removal treatments?

It is highly likely it will take multiple sessions to remove your tattoo (most take 6 – 15 treatments). All professional tattoos have multiple layers of ink, and each session results in some level of fading. The number of sessions needed to remove a tattoo depends on a number of factors including the age of the tattoo, the color of the ink, and the density of the ink.

How does laser tattoo removal work?

The pigment in your tattoo absorbs energy from the laser and shatters into smaller pieces, somewhat like a sugar cube breaking apart into smaller granules. Once the ink is broken down by the tattoo removal laser, the body responds by moving fluid to the area to help flush away the ink. This is an immune response that will be evident in the form of some swelling and redness in the area.

Is laser tattoo removal painful?

Many people compare the feeling of the procedure with that of getting the tattoo applied. A significant difference is that laser tattoo removal is much quicker; most treatments take just a few seconds of laser time to complete.  Additionally, we use a cooler to cool your skin prior to and during treatment.

We’d expect that you would have further questions related to the specifics of your tattoo.

So, whether you’re like Lisbeth Salandar with a highly identifiable tattoo that you prefer not to wear anymore, or your tattoo speaks to a relationship of days past, or you simply have decided you want to be tattoo free, call Re.You Studio to make an appointment.

We’ll answer all your questions and will assure you that Re.You Studio provides the best results in the region for laser tattoo removal treatments.
